![]() Udi Yorgo Bacanos Udi Yorgo Bacanos, the standard-bearer of the modern school of Turkish
ud playing, is the kind of musician that musicians listen to. If his contemporary,
the great blind master Udi Hrant (CD 4265, 4270,
4271), was the soul of the ud, then Yorgo was the intellect. His technique
and musicality have been admired by virtually every middle-eastern musician
of his time and ours. In the 1920s, Yorgo travelled throughout Europe
and the Middle East, spreading his art to Egypt, where he collaborated
with the renowned diva Umm Kulthum. This collection includes his landmark
recordings from 1920 to 1960, as well as rare radio broadcasts of his
most famous performances, never before issued commercially. |
